Naked Vampire Double feature

As luck (?) would
have it, we caught 2, count 'em 2, naked vampire movies in a row on a French movie channel.

Requiem pour un Vampire (1971)

From wikipedia because I have little idea how they got so much plot from watching this film. I have added commentary.

Two women (Underaged girls) dressed as clowns and a male driver are being chased through the countryside, for unknown reasons (this whole film is for unknown reasons). As the man drives, the women shoot at their pursuers. When the man is shot, the women are forced to burn the car with his body inside and once they remove their costumes, they run through a forest, and later a cemetery, in which one of the women, Michelle, is almost buried alive.

Walking through a field, they come to the outside of a gothic castle. There they are bitten by vampire bats, which lead them to go into the castle, where they make love in a cozy bed (fulfills the lesbian vampire trope but somehow this does not count as them losing their viginity). They tour the castle and discover a few skeletons along with a woman playing an organ. She begins to follow them, so they shoot at her, but she doesn't die. They run away and are caught by some men who force themselves on them. A vampire woman stops the men, and the vampire woman who chased them almost bites them until they break away. They soon come across a male vampire, the last of his kind. He has plans for the women. They are bitten in order to continue his bloodline, but they must stay virgins. Michelle likes the idea of everlasting life but her girlfriend has serious doubts, and by sleeping with Frédéric, a random passerby (cute and a total asshole who call her a slut when they escape from the vampire), she not only jeopardizes the vampire's plans but also puts the mutual love and friendship between her and Michelle to the ultimate test. The vampire realizes that he must not continue the bloodline, and lets Michelle and her girlfriend escape.

The filming goes randomly from day to night and so many shots are just plain weird and you have no idea what you are looking at. Characters appear from nowhere, and there are two woman in league with the vampire but they look so much alike we thought there was only one until they are in a scene together at the end. There is an EXTENDED scene of one of the girls letting some random chase her throughout the castle for hours? days? and he never manages to actually fuck her. NONE of this makes any sense whatsoever!

La Vampire Nue (1970)

In a strange laboratory, three men in weird masks take the blood of a naked young woman in a hood. Another woman in an orange nightgown is wandering the streets and is followed by a group of people also wearing weird masks. The woman comes across a man named Pierre who tries to help her, but the masked men corner them and shoot the woman; Pierre escapes unharmed. (pretty easy since the masked people walk so slow he could have crawled away from them). The masked men take the woman into a building, and Pierre follows. Guests then arrive for some sort of party, but Pierre can't get into the building. Another scene reveals his father is behind it.

He gatecrashes the next party, and a woman commits suicide in front of the other guests when a man shows her picture up on a projector (with an obviously fake gun that doesn't seem to make a mark nevermind blow what should have been a chunk out of the other side of her head). The woman in the orange nightgown appears and drinks the woman's blood. Pierre's face then appears on the projector. (How? When did they take the photo?) The other guests turn on Pierre. He escapes and is stopped by a man in a white cape (The guy is just walking are the street in a cape and some sort of weird robe and no one notices?) who tells him to go to his father's office, where more mysteries await him. (like WTF is happening in this movie.)

Pierre goes to his father's office and confronts him, who explains (suddenly become an exposition factory to try and make some sense of this) that the girl he saw is his protégée and an orphan. Pierre's father was a friend of her family. The girl has an unknown blood condition, and her wounds heal right away; she is also believed to be a goddess by certain fanatics. What the father is saying is that she is a vampire. (IS that what he was saying?) People are working to find someone with the same condition so that they can find a cure. The hoods and masks hide human faces from her so that she does not know she is different. (What? She looks like everyone else, she is different because she is the ONLY person not wearing a mask!) They are hiding her from a group of vampires.

The vampire in the white cape takes the woman and tells Pierre to protect her. A fight then occurs between the vampires and the humans, (We had no idea there were other vampires in this movie even at this point) leading to a beach where the woman sees the sunlight for the first time. They explain that they are not vampires but mutants and that the human race will one day evolve and all have the power of immortality. (Sure, OK)

This movie was so slow and plodding it was impossible to stay awake. The director was trying for artsy artsy but it just looked like the edited in everything they shot regardless of whether is helped tell the "story" or not. The protagonist, is an asswipe rich kid with REALLY high cheekbones so isn't sympathetic at all. The wiki page leaves out the scene with the protagonist's friend is "Painting" a naked woman with large gold fake fingernails who inexplicably painted her toenails blue so no match-y match for here! She touched herself in the most tedious non erotic way imaginable until he gets call and just leaves her in his place trying to find her own breasts.

Do NOT watch this movies! OMG I wish we had an excuse for sitting through them other than we were captured by un unbelievably terrible they are!

Birdemic - Shock and Terror

Recently, thanks to some promotion from «Riff tracks» the online site with the guys from Mystery Science Theatre 3000 making fun of movies as they watch them, a truly awful film has emerged and is gaining somewhat of a cult status. Some cinemas are even playing the film at midnight and people are coming with props and yelling put downs prepared in advance... just like the old days. What is this modern day masterpiece of «how not to make a film»? It’s «Birdemic - Shock and Terror» and I can vouch for it’s complete and I do mean complete lack of a single element of quality throughout it’s entire runtime.

How bad is it? Many horrible films have stupid plots (if any), bad filming, sound and effects (and this does not disappoint in any of those categories), but how many films are so bad that the actual transitions from one shot to another make you laugh out loud. In today’s computer assisted offline editing environment a simple crossfade is hard to screw up.. yet somehow «Birdemic» makes even the most simple and invisible of transitions into something so poorly executed, you can’t ignore it.

The plot is basically 40 minutes of nothing happening... lots of driving, parking, slowly pulling into traffic with no mention of birds, never mind a birdemic, then it violently collides with another film with a scene of «eagles» (computer generated puppets that I guess might look like eagles if you were really high on something) diving in to a gas station making bomber sounds and squawking (exactly) like seagulls. Oh.. and they explode on contact. And at one point they pee acid on people. They also break every law of aerodynamics you can think of. Why? How? Do you really think you’re going to get a reasonable explantation, or any at all?

Even if the cutting, sound and image quality were acceptable, the acting would drag this film easily into «worse film of all time» territory, but since those elements are equally bad it lifts the bar for bad acting to a level that may never be topped. People come and go in this film for no reason and more than one says «it’s not the eagles that scare me but the most dangerous animal of all, the human race» and then they rant about global warming for 3 minutes and walk away. The really scary thing about this movie is that the director is making a sequel... in 3D!

The thing that makes all bad films amazing to watch is when you can see the film maker has no idea the film is bad at all. In fact, this film like Glen or Glenda, tries so hard to be relevant and meaningful you almost feel obligated to find something good to not just crush the director’s ego completely. «Birdemic» will not provide you with even the slimmest chance of that, but good luck looking.

For those who want to see how bad, bad can be this is the film to see. I recommend the «Riff Tracks» version to keep the pain to a minimum.

Beyond the Valley of the Showgirls!

Do you hear a clickitty-clackitty sound approaching? It's the hordes of drag queens trotting to the nearest cinema offering this steaming, glittery, fragrantly fabulous stew of HOT MESS:

Oh, honey, I'll be there with my Ja-pan fan to cool me down!

"Quirky black comedy" is the new BAD!

I really don't have much to say about this film that hasn't been said in other movie blogs. There are sets and actors in this film. There is dialogue and some sex scenes. There is violence and melodrama. Apparently the director/writer/producer/leading actor, Tommy Wiseau, financed this himself to the tune of $6 million and filming took eight months. If that is true, about $5,999,964 is missing from the final product.

Like Boobs(and Martinis): One's not enough and three are too many!

I say let's go with TWO! As in "ANAMORPHIC DUO-VISION"! Check it out in "Wicked Wicked" playing (early) tomorrow on TCM:

According to the TCM site, "Duo-vision" was incorporated into this film because "...it lends itself to showing truth and untruth, flashbacks in time, visions of the future or cause and effect without abrupt interruption..."

I don't know about that, but Tiffany Bolling's singing of the title song has me hooked. Fun Fact: Tiffany was simultaneously starring in "The Candy Snatchers" at the same time! Wonder if that one will show up on TCM in the future?

Found Footage Festival! Fab,Freaky & FUN!

This is coming tomorrow to Wilmywood and I'm excited. As a former video vixen (along with DL), I have seen the heights and depths of instructional, informational and inspirational videotapes. These fellas pillage thrift stores and yard sales to bring you the best of the worst...or the worst of the best? Fans of Tim and Eric (AWESOME SHOW! GREAT JOB!) will see some major influences here.

THIS movie is a must-see...(who is that NILF in the pink polo?)

Best Worst Movie (2009)

I have to admit that until tonight I'd never seen or heard of Troll 2. But for some reason I was drawn to this documentary that examines the cult following this Italian-produced, late 1980s Utah production has bred. Watching this doc was pretty much the closest experience I've had to my first viewing of American Movie (Another incredible documentary about the genesis of an eccentric horror film production).

I think this story shares that special and indescribable quality that films like Plan 9 From Outer Space and Manos: The Hands of Fate have. It's just too damn absurd to be believed. No one ever sets out to make a movie like Troll 2. It just happens. And it's not just bad. It's also very earnest and human.

Night of the Dribbler (1990)

Sometimes these things defy all logic. The killer has a cartoon faced basketball for a head and he's killing off the Watergate Plumbers High School basketball team. Made in Canada (ehem).

As my good friend and noted film scholar, Bill Ackerman, told me:

"Much like Erich Von Stroheim's 'Greed', Orson Welles' 'The Magnificent Andersons', Roman Polanski's 'Cul-De-Sac' and Alejandro Jodorowsky's 'Santa Sangre', 'Night Of The Dribbler' is a noteworthy cinematic achievement that has so far eluded Netflix availability."

I'm in the wrong business.

Long Live The New Flesh!

One of my favorite movies is Videodrome, mainly because it deals with the horrors of Cable TV and home taping (on Beta!!!), which are two things that scared 1983 Hollywood more than the average person. Never before has Hollywood so nakedly laid out it's fears for the world to see.

A Newcomer at El Madhouse

from one of my favorite movies - "Screaming Mimi," 1958. Keep an eye out for it on TCM; it's been remastered (I hear) and is now on DVD, though I treasure my bootleg copy. With a cast that includes Anita Ekberg, Gypsy Rose Lee, Philip Carey and The Red Norvo Trio - what's not to love?

PS. Music by Mischa Bakaleinikoff

I once stayed in his former Hollywood Hills home! It still had the original basement theater seats. Check out his other credits.

Can Hieronymus Merkin Ever Forget Mercy Humppe and Find True Happiness?

Once again, YouTube serendipity lead me to this:

Written, directed by and starring Anthony Newley as Merkin with his wife,Joan Collins("Polyester Poontang"), Milton Berle("Goodtime Eddie Filth") and George Jessel("The Presence")! This little mindrocker is a mid-life crisis musical mockumentary with a not-too-subtle dash of Fellini whimsy. Here's the trailer:

Another scene with George Jessel and Milton Berle!

According to a commenter on IMDb, Joan Collins soon left him after the premiere! Now that is a scathing review!

It's HOT in here...

My AC is on the fritz and even the lemon co-colas with lots of chipped ice aren't cooling me off. They say you should have something hot and spicy if you want to cool down, so here's a little Jill St. WOW from "The Oscar":

Another VHS discovery in my video vault! This was part of TNT's "Bad Movies We Love" series, hosted by Ed Marguiles and Steve Rebello who wrote for "Movieline" magazine before it went bland and boring.

More about "The Oscar" another day, but it's a good thing Tony Bennett didn't give up his day job.

Santa vs Satan!

Now of course, I have always believed them to be one and the same. I first saw this on MST3K and Tony tells me that JX Williams also used it in "Satan Claus." With such priceless dubbed dialogue like,

Yes, I promise, oh Priceless Prince of Hades, that by my many wiles I will finish Santa off forever, and see that the children commit terrible deeds, and make Santa Claus angry!

Lucifer: You shall be punished, and instead of red-hot coals, you will eat chocolate ice cream.
Precio: No! No, Lucifer, King of all Evil Spirits! Not that! By the horns of everything satanic, I beg you! To live I must have heat. Frozen meals are bad for me, especially chocolate! It's very bad for my digestion, which is so delicate.

Pedro: What food do they eat on Earth, Santa Claus?
Santa Claus: Oh, everything in sight! They eat most of the animals, the plants, the flowers, the roots, birds, even smoke and alcohol!
