Spade Cooley had a small story arc in a few of James Ellroy's LA series of books. Ellroy kind of paints him as a gross train wreck but that was a pretty song.
Ha! I see on his findagrave link, "The Virtual Flowers feature has been turned off for this memorial because it was being continually misused," along with a photo of an Unhappy Flower.
I love the Spade story, especially because he was "model prisoner." I've toyed with the idea of writing the Spade story until I read that there was already a film in the works with Dennis Quaid slated for the lead.
