Three Finger Joe

This is one of my favorite industrial films and funnily enough, Bob Dylan played the theme on his radio show this week. Mr Lethal was laughing because I sang along. How could you forget the words to this incredible theme song?

Even better, this was directed by master auteur Herk Harvey! The genius behind one of the greatest films ever, "Carnival of Souls." Check out the original color trailer:

I love this movie! It's the first movie I downloaded from the Prelinger Archive.

I wrote and recorded this tune... lyrics were written by John Clifford, who also wrote the screenplay for "Carnival of Souls". Vocalist is Charlie Oldfather, former Dean of the University of Kansas law school. I don't know where else there's an MP3, but I have a download link on my web site at jimstringer.us

Y'know they're still showing it...

I saw it yesterday as part of a heavy equipment operators course. I particularly loved that hellish quiz format of the movie. It would show you the dangerous situation and then ask you what was wrong, and the inevitable answer was something that wasn't shown in the first place :) Of course the point was to raise safety awareness, but the answers seemed to be arbitrary.

(What did Johnny do wrong - fail to fasten seat belt? fail to walk around vehicle? have an affair with a gorilla dressed in an unfashionable tutu? The answer is all of them.)

And it's a lovely look back at the blue-collar 70's... oh those muttonchops.
