Grantbridge Street has this old underground comic era story of the self inflicted unexpectedly ignominious death of Kongo co-star Lupe Velez by Jim Osborne. It should be rendered in blacklight velvet flocked posters......
Simple truth, the poor thing took an overdose of sleeping pills because she was unmarried, pregnant and Catholic.
She was found in her bed the next morning, but Kenneth Anger thought it would be funnier if she drowned in her toilet, so that's what he made up in Hollywood Babylon (that story was never published anywhere before that book came out).
It's not even physically possible to drown in a toilet, unless you have you maid hold you by the heels and dunk you!
Yes, before I knew the truth I had a framed photo of Lupe on my bathroom door, captioned "The Lupe Velez Memorial Lounge". Most visitors did not get it.
Eve - tell us the truth!
