Here is the J.S. Watson, Jr. & Alec Wilder short, "Tomato Is Another Day" (1930/1933) - a satirical vision of "talkies", emphasizing the redundancy of words in moving pictures.

That was wonderful--I wonder who the actress is?

I'll bet some boob shows this somewhere as "a typical example of early talkies," like they're always claiming "Teddy at the Throttle" is a typical silent melodrama . .
