Raquel Welch In One Million Years B.C. - Hubba Hubba!
If cave girls really looked like Raquel Welch, I'd like to build a time machine and head back to those days. :-)
Gourmet Garbage from Larry Bishop
Hell Ride. Dialogue like it was written by a violent, horny, male 14 year old that gets A+ at English class. I think exploitation done by experts can still be exploitation. Buy that Miata and drive too fast on a mountain road and I will argue you will not miss the MG.
Larry Bishop, baby! Joey Bishop's son!
Leave us not forget he was "The Hook" in Wild in the Streets

CAUTION: Extreme epidermis exposure and '70s disco music...proceed at your own risk! Kudos to our local film fest, Cucalorus, for airing this selection.

Pam Grier As Foxy Brown
I hope you enjoyed the trailer for Foxy Brown, which is one of my favorite blaxploitation movies. I'm a huge fan of Pam Grier. I've had a crush on her since I can remember. Pam's sexy and tough. She's definitely some fine brown sugar.

I love everything about this movie but I still haven't got the soundtrack yet. More actual clips coming soon.

Sharon Tate Tribute Video
I'm a huge fan of Sharon Tate. She was a very beautiful and talented woman. It's such a shame that her life and career were cut so tragically short. It pains me so much to think of what happened to her. I hope you enjoyed that tribute video as much as I do. The pictures of Sharon and the song fit so well together. I really love Sharon.

Whatchu talkin' about, (Wesley) Willis?
I know we tend to wax nostalgic over the hidden gems of yesteryear while doing time in the Slammer, but I'd like to break out briefly and share some brighter, newer gems that I recently got to view at a local film fest. First up:
Part 2:
Wesley is a genius superstar artist and musician!

The Wilhelm Scream
Sound designers are nerds, and so are we for creating this blog and reading it. So whether or not you are already in the loop this should seem somewhat familial.
In the 1950's a Gary Cooper film titled Distant Drums was in production. In it, a minor character named Wilhelm was to wallow in the water and be bitten by an alligator, screaming with agony. As is usually the case the on-set recording of the scream wasn't dramatic enough so the studio employed an additional dialogue recording session to beef it up. In the sound room a single take was recorded of a series of six screams (by an arguably anonymous voice actor). Among these six takes was the now famous sound-effect known as "The Wilhelm Scream."
At some point the scream was found in the Warner Bros. sound effect library and became a sort of badge of honor among sound designers. No matter how unfitting or inappropriate it was for the the scene it was considered a right of passage to use the sound effect in the project at hand.
Nowadays the joke has become Tarantino-style passe'. Apparently too much of a good regurgitated thing can get annoying. Even among nerdy sound editors that have been in on the joke for decades. And us?

Dead Set
Just watched it. The imagery is painterly, the idea is clever, the violence appropriately disgusting - no boring gaps, limited preposterous, putting-oneself-in-danger moments- and like his Nathan Barley, atmospherically apt, like umami for the eyes.
Here's Charlie Brooker unnecessarily apologizing for it. Podcast.

Simon Pegg in a very complimentary review, centered on his disagreement with the concept of running zombies. Article.

Stella Stevens Gets Dean Martin All Wet
That's one of my favorite scenes from the Matt Helm spy flick The Silencers. Stella Stevens is one sexy and clumsy babe in this movie. Here she's getting Dean Martin all wet, but he's got more headaches courtesy of her the rest of the movie. I loved whenever these two were on screen together. Their scenes are full of laughs, action, sexual heat & much more!

RAGING BULLWINKLE
From HBO's 1994 short-lived series, HARDCORE TV. I remember it ran out of steam pretty quickly.
This is one of the gems. This and "Spamby." :D

Dolemite for President
Thank heavens, we don't need a good laugh as much as we did in the last 8 years, but hey, it's Rudy Ray! I like to think he had a little something to do w/it.
I tried to post an MP3 of Dolemite for President but it won't let me, so go to FMU's Beware of the Blog's post here with lots of listenables. Hell, you can even buy Dolemite on Amazon now!
