Monty's Right Profile

I had a recent conversation with a successful professional, who had never heard of Montgomery Clift - I was nonplusssed, owing to her apparent high degree of intellect but I also realized that exposure was exposure, so I strongly recommended A Place In The Sun and From Here To Eternity

The most interesting thing about his relationship with Elizabeth Taylor, (they were best friends) was that she saved his life: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montgomery_Clift#Car_accident

I also told her about one of my favorite Clash songs, The Right Profile chronicling his tragic post-crash addiction and depression.

Say, where did I see this guy?
In Red River?
Or a place in the sun?
Maybe the Misfits?
Or From Here to Eternity?

Everybody say, "Is he all right?"
And everybody say, "What's he like?"
Everybody say, "He sure look funny."
That's...Montgomery Clift, honey!

New York, New York, New York, 42nd Street
Hustlers rustle and pimps pimp the beat
Monty Clift is recognized at dawn
He ain't got no shoes and his clothes are torn

I see a car smashed at night
Cut the applause and dim the light
Monty's face is broken on a wheel
Is he alive? Can he still feel?

Nembutol numbs it all
But I prefer alcohol

He said go out and get me my old movie stills
Go out and get me another roll of pills
There I go again shaking, but I ain't got the chills

ARRRGHHHGORRA BUH BHUH DO ARRRRGGGGHHHHNNNN!!!!

What? Never heard of Monty?
Well ... if you watch "Raintree County" you can see the before and after of Monty's face.
If you really want to see how Nembutal does it all, watch "Freud."
Kevin McCarthy and Liz saved Monty's life; Liz pulled Monty's teeth out of the back of his throat, saving him from choking on them.

ps. Lex, our Orange Halloween design is stunning! Lindsay's prison garb and skin are perfect ... along with her perfect wax vampire lips that grow larger in each mugshot! Well done.

Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if Brando would have died young and Monty got old and decrepit and made movies with Val Kilmer. They were big competitors.

Well done on the masthead, by the way, Lex.

Yes- I meant to mention that the uber-cool McCarthy was there......

and thanks for the kind header comments - some o' these just create themselves. I'm putting together a gallery of past ones one of the days.

For me Montgomery Clift almost justifies the whole Method Acting hype of the 50s. I find most Method acting embarrassing, but Clift made it work.

A pal of mine actually waited for Monty's to come home to his apartment for months back in the day so he could try and have sex with him. When he did arrive he was such a mess, so he simply helped him up the stairs and was left with just how sad his life had become.
