Jaan Pehechaan Ho

My favorite movie musical number ever, which circulated around for years on bootlegged VHS tapes from the Bollywood classic "Gumnaam" (I finally own a gorgeous DVD copy) before it surfaced for real in "Ghost World." Here it is in its original form:

now watch it lovingly referenced in "Om Shanti Om" - it starts about 2:10 with the familiar drum roll:

Thanks, Danielle!

I used to watch the Indian channels when I lived in NY. I loved them! I was surprised that there's none in LA; I've traded them in for Santo movies.

Funny - I just rewatched Ghost World the other day - Zweigoff (German for two goffs) really captures Clowes' feel. My recent infatuation with the early blues (owing to have to edit a public domain company giveaway CD) also was somewhat edified through Enid's fascination with "Devil Got My Woman"
But this clip is the real grabber - it dazzles and hypnotizes. I wann wear a video iPod around my neck with it playing on a loop.

My friend Danielle (who gave me the clip originally and also sent me "Om Shanti Om") is the one who found "Gumnaam" on DVD. It's basically Agatha Christie's "12 Little Indians" or "13 Ghosts" Bollywood style and has some other killer musical numbers, too. Imagine my shock when PZ called me from the theater after seeing Ghost World: "Ted Lyons and His Cubs are the opening number!"

But I digress. Yes, Lex, I too love Ghost World ... "The Satanists" being one of my particular favorites. I lived for "Eightball." Clowes is brilliant.
