Remembering John Hughes

I frequently talk about David lynch and John Waters, but I also like mainstream movies and my favorite mainstream film maker is John Hughes. John Hughes, in my opinion, was the film maker for my generation and no other epitomizes the 80s like he does. I believe that his movies are so rooted in the culture, mores and norms of the 80s that younger viewers may have trouble relating to them, but if they didn't try they'd be missing out on the universal truths that he put in every movie: question authority, opposites attract, and there's someone for everyone. So, let's raise our glasses to John Hughes, a man who entertained and educated as well.

my lil' bro Eric wrote a nice tribute to John Hughes, Eric is 3 years younger than me -- the perfect age to be truly influenced and appreciative of Hughes films, and while I was done with highschool by Breakfast Club '85 - Eric was right in the middle of the teen angst.

he wrote:

In a year that has seen the passing of a lot of celebrities, I have to say the loss of John Hughes perhaps to me, on a personal level stings a bit more. For many of us, his movies represented a time in our lives that addressed what was most difficult: our youth. Our parents used to say: "Enjoy the best time of your life... all you've got to do is be a kid and go to school, no job, no responsibilities..."

...how soon they forgot about being young, faced with peer pressures, circles of friends that resembled caste societies, wishing to be a part of something, bigger, cooler than what we were in and hoping some day it would come true.

As I stare down at the list of Hughes' directorial efforts on my desk, I can say each of these films had influence on me and have in small part,to who I am today....

I was pretty little during the mid eighties but that didn't stop me from being influenced by his movies a few years later. He will be missed.

I've only seen "Home Alone" and "Ferris Bueller." I never saw any of the Molly Ringwald ones.

This scene still gives me goosebumps when I watch it! It's something I think many of us would have loved to have done in our real lives!
RIP John.

I was really sad and shocked to hear of his passing. I've always loved his movies. They played a big part in my teen years. I watched them so many times back then. I've continued to go back and watch them. I still enjoy them.
